What is a Pre-existing Medical Condition?
A Pre-existing medical condition is one that is an existing or recurring illness, an infirmity, an injury or disability or physical defect that you, or the person you are applying on behalf of, are aware of.
If you, or the person you are applying for travel insurance on behalf of, has a medical condition which you have, or have had a medical examination, consultation, treatment, investigation and/or medication in the 12 months prior to your policy being issued, this is also regarded as a Pre-existing Medical Condition.
What Do I Do If I Have a Pre-existing Condition
As part of our online purchase process you will be asked if anyone on the policy has a pre-existing condition. If you answer ‘yes’ to this, you will have the option to complete an online medical assessment which will determine if we can cover your medical condition(s). This assessment is a quick, step-by-step online process that gathers information about your condition before assessing the available cover, and any additional costs for that condition coverage.
I’m Not Sure If I Need to Declare My Condition
Our pre-screening questions will answer this for you. If you are unsure if your condition needs to be declared, answer the question as ‘Yes’. You will initially be asked some screening questions which will determine if you need to complete the medical assessment, otherwise you are automatically covered.
Do I Have to Declare My Medical Conditions?
No, but it’s important to understand that Pre-existing Conditions may not be covered under your policy. To ascertain if they are, complete the medical assessment online. If they are not automatically covered you may have the option to cover your medical condition(s) for an additional fee. If you decided you don’t want this, you can always opt out of this additional cover offering at the end of the online medical assessment process.
